CLI coding agent
Claude Code alternative: Navin vs Claude Code
Claude Code shines as a powerful terminal coding agent. Navin adds a full desktop product: Vision 360, multi-agents, scraping, leads and GTM studios.
Claude Code is the terminal agent people search for: repo-aware edits, a tight Anthropic loop, a paid seat. If you live in the shell and already pay for Claude, it is a serious tool.
navin-cli is the free local AGI. Same engine as the Navin desktop. Modes, sessions, git, tools, your keys. No Anthropic lock-in. When the job needs preview, scrape or GTM, you open the same product as a desktop.
| Dimension | Navin | Claude Code |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Local AI agent OS | CLI coding agent |
| Runtime | Desktop local-first (Windows, macOS, Linux) | Typically cloud SaaS or single-purpose app |
| Scope | Code + scrape + leads + marketing + channels + autonomy | Focused on Claude Code's core job |
| Privacy default | Chats and files stay on your machine | Vendor cloud by default |
Where Navin stands out
- Visual workbench with preview, tasks and project graph
- Built-in specialists for scrape, leads, marketing, docs
- Account, plans and desktop distribution for teams
- Parallel virtual teams without living in the terminal only
Where Claude Code stands out
- Excellent CLI-native agent experience
- Strong Anthropic model integration for coding loops
- Lightweight for terminal power users
What you pay and what you keep
Claude Code sits on a Claude subscription or API bill. The model is excellent. The cage is the vendor. navin-cli install is $0. Bring OpenRouter, a local model, or a Navin plan. The repo stays on disk.
Teams that already bought Claude can still point Navin at Anthropic via BYOK. You do not throw the model away. You stop renting the whole AGI.
Terminal that is a product, not a prompt
navin-cli opens a framed composer: ctrl+t changes mode (agent, ask, plan, review, security, debug). ctrl+s resumes any session. The panel shows provider, model, git branch and workspace. That is a control board, not a raw REPL.
Claude Code is lighter if you only want the Anthropic loop. Navin is heavier if you want settings, skills, MCP and the desktop on the same config.
When the mission leaves the terminal
Claude Code stays a coding CLI. Navin adds Vision 360, scrape, leads and marketing on the same machine. One download. One brain.

Verdict
